virginia corpus-mcdermott
With an MBA from Yale University in the US, Virginia was once an investment banker in New York City who ran marathons for fun. Enter yoga – which merely began as a way to stretch her tight hamstrings. That was almost twenty years ago. Needless to say, her yoga practice opened so much more than just those hamstrings.
With more than a decade of teaching experience, Virginia has achieved Yoga Alliance’s highest designation of E-RYT500/YACEP. Virginia is an international yoga educator formally trained by some of today’s most well-respected yoga teacher trainers and movement educators in the world: Annie Carpenter, Noah Maze and Jill Miller. Virginia prides herself on empowering self-care through therapeutic movement and educating students about their own anatomy, physiology and biomechanics. She champions the art of breathing in all of her classes, which helps to manage stress and improve all-around health and performance.
In her classes, expect precise alignment instruction in the context of your own body, thoughtful and intelligent sequencing, and skilful yet accessible communication of anatomical themes. Experience movement as well as stillness with breath, as well as a wonderful dose of humour.
Virginia is a certified FRC® Mobility Specialist, a Yoga Tune Up® Certified Teacher (one of only 500 of these prestigious instructors worldwide) as well as a Roll Model® Method Practitioner, having trained directly with creator and founder of the renowned Yoga Tune Up® balls, Jill Miller. Virginia is a certified Stick Mobility® Coach. Also an avid CrossFit athlete (CF-L1), she is a certified The Ready State (TRS) Mobility Coach, trained by world-renowned physical therapist to world-class athletes, Dr. Kelly Starrett. Virginia is also an eager student of Tom Myers (Anatomy Trains) and Gil Hedley, PhD (Integral Anatomy). She is also a professionally-trained natural foods chef (Natural Gourmet Institute, New York City) and a certified Holistic Health Coach (IIN). Virginia teaches workshops and teacher trainings in Australia and in the US. She resides locally and is the proud mama to three little boys – her biggest achievement to date.
