Vitality GOLD
Expertly crafted especially for our ageless seniors population, this class involves safe movement practices, correct alignment, breathing techniques and wonderful company. Work on safely moving your spine, combined with mobility and stability for shoulders and hips. Expect to move slowly and deliberately with precise alignment, and ease into a relaxing, nourishing rest.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini means energy. Kundalini yoga is a technology using a recipe of specific movement, combined with breath and meditation that is used to work on the chakras. It is yoga for the householder, it can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what your experience, age or flexibility. It is the yoga of awareness, it has been designed so that you can surrender your ego and allow yourself to journey through your own experience. It teaches us to harness the energy of our mind and emotions so that we can be in control of ourselves, rather than being controlled by our thoughts and emotions.
A typical class will begin by ‘tuning in’ and a breathing practice to centre ourselves and bring us into the present moment. We move into a series of postures to stretch, relax, strengthen or energise us, which assists in moving any energy blocks and focusing the mind. A deep relaxation will then prepare us for a meditation.
Yin & Restorative Yoga
Yin yoga is a slow-paced, passive type of yoga that incorporates long holds and deep breaths for a stretch that gets right into the muscle fibres. Yin yoga involves a series of seated and laying down postures, typically held for 3-5 minutes at a time. During these prolonged periods of stillness, the yogi experiences the melting away of residual tension and stress. Long Yin yoga holds leave the yogi feeling lighter, clearer and completely relaxed.
We will explore a variety of yin & restorative yoga poses, breath work and meditations to put the day away, tap into the deepest, steadiest parts of you, and encourage and remind your body how to unwind and relax. You may even practice with the BackMitra® tool in Alexandra and Trina’s classes, which will help ease and relieve any back stiffness. By practicing consistently, we afford ourselves the opportunity to process the daily wear and tear on our mind, body and hearts before we fall asleep. Over time, with regular practice our mind-body system can lean into nourishing, quality sleep more quickly, and we can develop healthy sleep hygiene and evening rituals that support us in sweet sleep and daily life. When we relax, restore and sleep well, everything and everyone we care about including ourselves benefits immensely.

Smart Strength
It’s no longer enough just to move. We need to upgrade how we move and live in our own bodies.
This new and innovative class is the first of its kind. In this unique mat-based class, we focus on strengthening movements using external load (such as Y-bells and glute bands) or for some, your own bodyweight. We proudly also work with the unparalleled Crossover Symmetry® cords. Technique and form will always trump speed and maximum weight in our carefully programmed sessions. This physiotherapist-endorsed class will focus on good biomechanics & moving deliberately in order to strengthen our “supporting” muscles (for example, think rotator cuff stability, gluteus medius strength and stability, anti-rotation core exercises, foot/ankle stability & grip strength just to name a few) but will also work our bodies as a whole, making us more resilient human beings off of the mat. In this class, we will work with moderate loads and stay in the moderate repetition range. Progression over time will be in the form of slowing speed/tempo and honing technique, or increasing weight/resistance with fewer repetitions or moving from bilateral (both legs or shoulders) to unilateral (single leg or shoulder) movements.
Our overall goals are to increase bone density, build muscle, resilience of tendons, protect us from injury, improve balance, reduce aches and pains, improve performance and to move better in life! No experience needed, as everyone will work at his/her own level. Spaces will be limited in each class, so please book in.

Yoga for Back Care - Featuring the BackMitra®
This class enhances the understanding of spinal health, cultivates functional strength & mobility and enables the release of muscular tension in the back, neck & shoulders as it includes the use of the BackMitra – a simple & ingenious prop that aids in the re-alignment of the natural curves of the spine and helps create more space, grace & ease in the body by targeting the neck, shoulders, upper to mid-back, and lower spine.
The BackMitra is a soft but firm, supportive foam tool that when laying on top of it exerts pressure along the spinal column that provides a soft decompression for the intervertebral discs. The idea behind the BackMitra has its origins in India where yoga teachers began to use different tools to create space in their students’ upper back and shoulder area.
Led by Alexandra, an international BackMitra'® teacher trainer.
Some key benefits of the BackMitra:
• Aids the realignment of the natural curves of the spine
• Relief from headaches, tensions in scalp, jaw and face
• Expanded breath capacity
• Relaxation of spinal, neck and shoulder muscles
• Improved function of rotator cuff
• Restoring mobility in neck, shoulders, and pelvis
Functional Mobility
Unlock your body’s full potential! This new class prioritises full-body mobility using some of the best mobility tools available to promote better movement patterns, balance, stability & most importantly, will increase our body’s resilience living LIFE.
Our much loved Stick Mobility class is BACK! We will use the specially-engineered Stick Mobility® training sticks to create leverage, stability and body awareness to safely increase shoulder, hip and spine range of motion.
Additionally, we will work with and incorporate our brand new toy – The “SoleMate” from Brisbane’s own foot health experts The Foot Collective (TFC). This amazing tool along with TFC’s recommended movements promote natural human movement (the way humans are meant to move!) as well as proper alignment for improved foot function. The feet are the gateway to the rest of the body, so alleviating stiffness in the feet and improving foot and ankle mobility may contribute to better overall posture and movement patterns throughout the entire body.
This class a PERFECT mid-week mobility/recovery session. Move better, breathe better & sleep better!
Taught by Virginia Corpus-McDermott, Level 1 Stick Mobility® Coach, Functional Range Mobility (FRC) Mobility Specialist and The Ready State (TRS) Level 2 Mobility Coach.
Tweens/Teens Stick Mobility®
Hunching over Ipads, mobile phones, computers and sitting at desks from such a young age could be our next generation’s most serious health danger. Postural changes that occur due to slumping, slouching and a forward “tech neck” position when the spine is still developing are enhanced and unfortunately could be set in place for life. Muscular compensation patterns may develop, setting up a recipe for pain and injuries later in life. Our tweens and teens are in need of a mobility practice just as much as they need cardiovascular and strength training, recovery and rest.
Mobility is the combination of flexibility, stability and motor control. Stick Mobility® - a revolutionary system developed in America - it is intended to help users increase their mobility, muscle activation, movement and range of motion. The stick is used in conjunction with exercises or movements that utilise the flexibility and strength of the stick to propel the body into peak fitness and performance.
Movement Vitality is the only Brisbane yoga studio to offer Stick Mobility® classes to this age group. The sessions are taught by studio owner and certified Stick Mobility® Coach Virginia Corpus-McDermott - also a mum to three athlete boys.
